In August Kerry finally took an introductory mountaineering
class, even though she had done some significant skiing and climbing with
myself and a number of friends already. Among the things taught the first
day, in a park, were basic rescue pulley systems and ascending a rope. On
the second day, held later on a glacier, the skills included crampon technique,
ascending out of a crevasse with an assist over the top edge, and some ice
climbing.
