This was the hanging tip of a glacier I passed at about 2600m which drops into Schwarzenbergferner valley. I couldn't see above to where it comes from, but from the map it seems like it must be part of the bottom of Bockkogelferner which is a broad glacier hanging on the flanks of Mutterberger Seespitz.

This is last photo from the second day. From here I continued down to the end of the Schwarzenbergferner and beyond, until the valley merges into the Sultztal (which is the route for the next day). The Amberger hut (2133m) is a short distance further along a flat section. As I continued below the elevation of this photo the snow became progressively wetter. For a while the wet snow skiing wasn't too bad and certainly beat the breakable crust, but ultimately the remaining snow was thin and saturated, and there was some boulder-hopping to get down to the valley merger. From there the walking was easy and I picked up a trail.

The Amberger hut was being prepared for summer opening and the hut-keeper and his wife were there, having driven up a narrow carraige road which ends at the hut. They hadn't opened the hut so let everyone was staying in the winter room - myself, two students from Munich hoping to climb the north side of Schrankogl, and four young men from the Trier (Germany) region who were hiking and scrambling. This winter room is quite nice and has an electric heater which we didn't need, an electric hotplate for cooking, and self-serve beer. (Just put the cost of each beer into the money box in the winter room!) We all helped set up tables on the deck but even the Germans had trouble understanding the mans heavy Tirolean valley accent.
