Klamath Kinteic Challenge 2011
The official website for the event is http://klamathkinetic.org/ - there you can find some photos from different years, a non-exhaustive list of rules, and more. There are also numerous photos on Facebook including many that complement mine very well since there were some things I don't have many photos of, and also because they are from different perspectives. The group is: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Klamath-Kinetic-Challenge/166177550082883 and there are also links to some photos on users accounts.
You can rate all photos and galleries but comments are disabled due to spamming issues in the past.
From the official page:
"The KKC is a Kinetic Sculpture Race. (Apparently it isn't officially called that for some obscure issue surrounding use of the descriptive name.) Kinetic Sculptures are homemade, human powered vehicles able to travel (hopefully) over land, sand, muck, rocks and, oh yeah, water. They carry one, two, four or more people. The race is to see if these fantastic creations are able to negotiate the course. Awards are given for engineering/construction, art, speed and many other frivolous achievements. The Race is really a Festival put on FOR THE FUN of all involved, including spectators."
There are numerous races held each year. The "granddaddy" of them all is Memorial Day weekend in Humboldt, CA. That one is 43 miles and 3 days from one city to another. There is a pretty big one in Corvallis, OR in conjunction with their DaVinci days festival. Port Townsend has one that is reputed to have more fun if somewhat less racing than the others. Newer ones have cropped up all over, even the east coast is getting on board now. While there is a series of races there is no formal affiliation that I know of, each is run independently. Although the same vehicles are generally spotted in multiple races, at least within a region.
